1997: Vied for MP position for Gatundu south consistency, lost the election.
1999: Chairman of Tourism Board.
2001: Nominated to parliament; appointed to the cabinet as Minister for Local Government.
2001: First Vice Chairman of KANU.
2002: Vied for Presidential position, conceded to Mwai Kibaki.
2003: Took up an active leadership role as Leader of the Opposition.
2005: Led KANU party in campaign against the draft constitution.
2007: Led KANU to join a coalition PNU.
2008: Become Deputy Prime Minister.
2013: Elected as the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya.
